Sen. Gregorio Honasan appealed to the government with the recent budget cut given to state universities and colleges (SUCs).
Honasan said that the budget cut shouldn’t be implemented as it will result into more expenses for students and their parents .
In the hearing last Thursday by the Senate committee on finance, Mindanao State University (MSU) president Dr. Macapado Muslim revealed that they have increased their tuition fee and miscellaneous fees to come up with more funds.
“Noong sinimulan ng gobyerno na ii-slash ‘yung MOOE (maintenance and other operating expenses) ng mga SUCs, faculty members and some colleges did their own fund raising, illegal, nangongolekta ng mga fees sa mga estudyante, hindi sa cashier,” Muslim said.
“Pag assume ko as new president (noong 2010), ang ginawa ko, mga laboratory fees, varsity, sports development fee, pina-legalize ko sa board of regents para ma-require na babayaran na ‘yan sa cashier’s office, isa ‘yan sa source,” she added.
