Manny Pacquiao Aims To Make History

The People’s Champ, Manny Pacquiao is set to leave for the United States where he will be continuing his training for his upcoming fight against Miguel Cotto. The fight will be a historic one for Manny as he will not only be aiming for that belt on Cotto’s waist but also he will be looking to make history.

No one in the history of boxing has ever won a belt in seven divisions. Yet Pacquiao is just one victory away from claiming that special place. Every time he has risen up in weight category, questions abound whether he can maintain his speed and punching power. After his wins over David Diaz, Oscar de la Hoya and Ricky Hatton, I think he has proven that he is not only comfortable but also has the same speed, stamina, and power.

The welterweight division has seen a lot of talented pugilists from the Americas and now it looks like the Philippines can claim to be the first country in Asia to produce a welterweight champion of the world. Although it has been said that Cotto is younger and stronger than him, we cannot discount Manny’s heart and speed. Cotto might not have a chin made out of china but his fight with Antonio Margarito proved that he can be knocked out.

The anticipation for the upcoming fight has intensified not only among boxing fans in the Philippines but also all over the world. No matter what the outcome though, one thing is sure. And that is that the Filipino people will rally around Manny as he once again take to the ring and represent the Filipino people. We can also expect that Manny will dedicate this fight to the Filipino people who surely need something to smile about after typhoons ravaged the country.
