London police have started raiding houses to round up rioters after rioting and looting that occurred for several days onto the streets. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stephen Kavanagh said the raids began overnight, and more than 100 warrants will be served.
Prime Minister David Cameron issued a warning that order will be restored by whatever means that is necessary.
The Metropolitan police have arrested more than 900 people wherein 371 have been charged since the riot started last Saturday. They have increased police visibility amounting to 16,000 officers for the huge operation.
“Right now it’s important that people are reassured that their streets are made safe, their homes are made safe and society is allowed to move on,” Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said in a radio interview.
In the past few days, rioters, mostly composed of middle-aged men started looting stores in different locations. They were said to form as groups by use of social networks and mobile phone messengers.
