Manila, Philippines — what will happen to Lakas-KAMPI-CMD when the May, 2010 election comes especially with the turn of events for the party. This is after some have observed that almost all high-ranking officials of the party have defected. And last but for some certainly not the serious is the resignation of the party’s standard bearer Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro as the party’s chairman. This is after various provincial allies have defected the party and seek refuge to the camp of Sen. Manuel Villar of Nacionalista Party. Teodoro’s decision to quit his position in the party is for the reason the he wants to focus all his effort and attention to his candidacy. Teodoro has decided to announce his resignation days after Bukidnon Governor Jose Maria Zubiri Jr. has left the party after the latter with 22 mayors of the province have openly announced their support for Nacionalista’s Manny Villar.
Aside from Teodoro and Zubiri, the party’s Ilocos Sur provincial chairman Luis “Chavit” Singson has also quit the administration party after he endorsed Villar’s candidacy instead of Teodoro’s. It also cites that Teodoro has decided to resign his position in the party. However, Teodoro remains the administration’s party’s standard bearer.
However, Lakas-KAMPI party stalwart Prospero Pichay told a leading television network that Teodoro’s resignation will certainly not affect the political party’s stability. This is due to the fact that the party can easily replace Teodoro once the party’s national directorate decided to accept Teodoro’s resignation.
The party’s operational procedure when the chairman has decided to resign is that the national directorate will convene and discuss the resignation and once the resignation has been accepted, the party’s two chairmen will serve as chairman jointly. In the case of Teodoro, the party’s vice chairmen and potentially be the chairmen are Eduardo Manzano and Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno to which the party will choose between the two.
Furthermore, it is shown in the latest political survey that Teodoro ranks only fourth after Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino of Liberal Party, Sen. Manny Villar of Nacionalista Party, and former President Joseph Estrada of Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino.
