Senador Antonio Trillanes IV wants an immediate investigation on the funds of the Philippine Sports Commission headed by Chairman Richie Garcia.

Sen. Trillanes made the request to the senate due to the lack of financial support of the commission to Filipino athletes joining international competitions like what happened to the Philippine Dragon Boat team that won five golds and 2 silver medals in a competition in Tampa, Florida.

It was also revealed that the PSC didn’t gave any support to the Philippine delegation for the ongoing Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, China.

“The plight of our Phi­lippine Dragon Boat team is not an isolated case. Our delegates to this year’s Summer Universiade did not receive any centavo from the commission,” Trillanes said.

“It is very disappointing to see our delegates suffer from government neglect and lack of support. Just imagine how heartbreaking and demoralizing it is for our athletes to compete with minimal government support or worse, receiving nothing at all,” he added.

Trillanes is part of the 26th Summer Universiade delegation team as president of the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP).

WWE Superstar John Cena admits that he won’t win against Filipino boxing champion and congressman Manny Pacquiao in case they meet in the ring.

“The decision would be obvious,” Cena said. “Manny will knock me out!

“If Manny will enter the WWE, I would have to train to be quick. You just have to give me the heads up if he decides,” Cena added.

He also mentioned that he is a big fan of the pound for pound king.

“I have a lot of respect (for Pacquiao). He’s done so much, not only for the Philippines. His popularity has transcended,” Cena said.

The reward money will be given for the honor that the dragon boat team brought to the country. The Congress also asks the dragon boat team to visit the congress.

The Philippine Dragon Boat Team won 5 gold medals and two silver medals in the said championship that was held in Tampa Bay, Florida, USA last August 1-7.

According to PSC chairman Ricardo Garcia, they will check if the paddlers can be part of the Republic Act 9064, much known as the Sports Benefits and Incentives Act of 2001.

Garcia also made a clarification that it was just in the Tampa Bay event that they did not support the Dragon Boat team after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) agreed to the request of the Philippine Olympic Comiittee (POC) that the sport should be under the Philippine Canoe-Kayak Federation (PCKF).
